Boutique Love // Alice Takes A Trip

Hey lovelies, As Rhi mentioned in the first Boutique Love outfit post, last weekend we had a mini photoshoot to show off some of our favourite boutique labels. This week I'm sharing my love for the Sheffield based label 'Alice Takes A Trip' who create Victoriania inspired attire, using divine coloured velvets and pretty lace detailing!

I first discovered the label through their premium capsule collections, 'The Tales of Alice Horretta', and immediately fell in love. I spent endless hours trawling through their teeny shop in Sheffield's Forum - a wonderful treasure trove for vintage attire and independent labels. Their first collection featured stunning bottle green velvet dresses, that I'm still a little sad that I missed out on!

All these dreamy garments are still made by two sisters in their Sheffield studio. I always convince myself that they are to be special occasion dresses, but then end up wearing them all the time! In honour of the label, here's a little Alice in Wonderland inspired outfit post. Just follow the white rabbit...

Without a doubt my favourite dress in the world - a Black Velvet Polka Dot number with Lace Collar. With a double whammy occasion day last year (becoming Little M's godmother at his Christening in the morning and heading to London in the evening to watch the boy's band play at the Royal Albert Hall - best day ever!), I needed an extra special dress and this is the one I decided on. Definitely my go-to dress, wearing it for shopping trips, work, festivals as well as nights out!

Ahh, my first Alice purchase! Insanely beautiful, cream and navy with a cute scallopped edge and bought for my 22nd birthday. From the first Spring/Summer 'Alice Horretta' collection - it was SO hard to chose just one dress from this collection, they were all so perfect.

A pretty summer purchase... broderie anglaise top with blue bow and cute tie detail. Love wearing this with jeans or shorts in the summer! You can't host a tea party without an ostentatious hat, this one is a 60s fedora picked up at my favourite local vintage store, Dolly Mix Vintage.

That's all sweets. Don't forget to check out Rhi's post if you missed it on Thursday!

Outfit post // Solar Styling

As you may have noticed, I like collars. I also like outer space. Combine these two things and I'm literally over the moon (with a pretty collar on).

As an utterly beaut birthday present from my mama, I am now a proud owner of the
Louniverse Peter Pan Collar from Lou Lou Loves you, who also made the stunning Lola collar featured on our Field Day style post! I absolutely adore this shop, with beautiful handmade pieces they also have such a good eye for flattering feminine cuts & lush detailing.

This particular collar is adorned with gold planets, moons & stars and finished with a silk taffetta underside and cute pom pom trim! Recently, I've been rummaging in the depths of my wardrobes to find different ways of wearing it, so I've included a few options for you below :)

Louinverse collar styled with cream lace dress & forest green chelsea boots.

Masculine shaped shoes are my absolute vice & these colourful leathers were one of my must-haves for the winter!

I love how pretty & elegant the over sized peter pan shape looks worn over a sleeveless shift dress. I wore this dress to death last year so I'm happy that I can start wearing it again in a slightly different way!

For a subtle way to make dressing down days that little bit more inspired, popping a collar over a plain tee will instantly dress up a casual outfit and creates a much smarter silhouette if you're heading to work.

It seems a shame to hide away something so pretty, try layering over jumpers or winter coats to display during the winter months!

In keeping with the theme of the day, here's a little musical tune to kick start your Saturday with... I've been listening to this album non-stop at the moment. A collection of spacey, pysch nuggets, the album 'The Midnite Sound of the Milky Way' was re-released by Ace Records. Most of the songs and bands featured are pretty hard to come by but if you can get hold of a copy, it's a real treat. Here's Kookie Cook with 'Workin' Man'...

Much love,
L xx

Outfit Post // Field Day in LDN

IMG_1955

Hey, thought I'd do a quick outfit post from our recent trip to the big smoke for Field Day '11 as quite a few people have asked where I'd got bits from! Was SUCH a fun day, watching bands, milling around in hospitality ;), catching up with old friends and meeting some wonderful new ones!

Most of my outfit was made up of my favourite high street finds of this year...

Collar: LouLou Loves You

One of the best birthday presents ever! My lovely friend Samantha bought me this collar after spending hours with me trying to find the perfect 'Birthday Dress' this time last year. I was looking for a Wednesday Adams style/sixties mini dress (fyi: mission unsuccessful).

I was completely overwhelmed when I unwrapped this beauty from 'LouLou Loves You'. Ironically from their 'Lola' range (...one could say it was meant to be) it's a stunning handmade peterpan collar made from silk. It's also incredibly versatile, I love wearing it over tee's to work to dress them up, as well as over dresses to give them a sixties edge.

Summer Raincoat: Topshop '10.
I love this coat, it's light enough for the summer and has a hood - vital for England's sudden showers!

Hat: Rokit in Covent Garden; Shirt: Gladrags vintage; Coat: Topshop circa 2007.

In honour of my trip to the city, thought I'd leave you with another of my faves, 'London' by Noonday Underground - such good footage too. Happy dancing Lovelies!
