Literature Love // Swann's Way

litloving copy

proust

"My Mother was right: When you've got nothing left, all you can do is get into silk underwear and start reading Proust"

Jane Birkin

Jane Birkin's momma knew what she was talking about, didn't she? Now that we're done with All Hallows, we've got time again to get cosied up with a good book in the evening. Celebrating Halloween over the week has allowed time for Little M to perfect his scariest monster growls, although we should probably remember to put away the pumpkins & glittery skeltons from the from the front porch this eve before our neighbours start encircling Twee Towers with salt!

This week we're starting volume one of Proust's considerably lengthy novel, In Search of Long Time or Rememberance with Things Past as it's otherwise known. The volume itself is called 'Swann's Way'. We've been particularly good thus far and managed to steer clear of finding out too much about the plot so we'll let you know what we think when we're finished! Expecting all the fragmented, introspective goodness of Modernist literature!

We also stumbled across another Proust gem today... Vanity Fair's Proust Questionnaire! In honour of the popular 19th Century parlour game that Proust believed to offer a deep insight into character and personality based on the individual's answers, Vanity Fair has collected the responses to questions on love, death, happiness and life from loads of our favourite icons & modern day luminaries! Take a look, it's a fascinating (an extremely addictive) read! You can even take the test yourself
here and find out which cultural figure you most match up with.

Shall we play...

What is it that you most dislike?
L: Bad manners and the feel of wooden spoons when my hands are wet... yuck. (Strange, I know!)
R: The texture of mushrooms and nail-biters
We also asked our lovely friend Chris: Spiders, olives & being ordered to tidy his desk at work when it gets a bit crazy (nothing to do with Lola's OCD of course...)

Feel free to leave some of your responses in a comment below :) Enjoy your weekend's amigos!

Much love,

After Dinner Dance Party // Autumn tracks

Afterdinner copy

Brrr, the cold mornings and dark night certaintly crept in quite fast! Despite our shivers, we are well and truely embracing the seasonal change over here at Twee Towers, which is why we thought we'd share some of the cosy autumnal inspired tracks that we've been humming along to in this week's After Dinner Dance Party .Snuggle up, grab a mug of hot chocolate & enjoy the prettiness...

As always, Devendra Banhart's soulful vocals soothe like a beautiful lullaby in this track 'Autumn's Child' ... heavenly. How cute is the cover illustration too?

Carla Bruni will always be the epitome of dreaminess no matter how melancholy her lyrics are... a song simply titled, 'Autumn'.

And lastly, we LOVE The White Stripes so were were stupidly pleased to find this cover... Nina Persson (of The cardigans fame) adds some sultry vocals to 'Dead Leaves & The Dirty Ground', whilst still retaining Jack White's signature raunchy guitar sound. Beaut!

Nice, huh? We would have also have liked to added Edith Piaf's 'Autumn Leaves' to the mix but You Tube said, NO. Enjoy lovelies, and don't forget to practise your best leaves kicking moves.

Much love,

Trick or Twee // A Fairytale Nightmare

We had loads of fun on Saturday night dressing up and partying with friends for Halloween. We debated several themes during one of our Monday wine nights and concluded that we'd look best as a band of fairytale misfits! So here is our Fairytale Nightmare... and a bit of back story on our characters for the eve!

Starring:

Rhi as Red Riding Hood, Lola as Bo Peep, Ellie as Malice in Wonderland, Carla as Snow White, Chris as The Madhatter & James as Sweeney Todd.

SNV13768

Here is Red Riding Hood, sick of waiting for the hunter to arrive and fight off the blasted wolf, Red Riding decides to take matters in to her own hands... with the aid of a machete. She fashions the wolf into a stylish wrap.

SNV13770

Little Bo Peep had lost her sheep and didn't know where to find them... so when Doris the littlest sheep arrived home days later, Bo Peep decided to make an example of her and speared her with her crook.

SNV13772

One of the earliest urban legends, Sweeney Todd the demon barber of Fleet Street, swapped styling for slashing.

SNV13773

Wrapped up the nonsensical world of wonderland and fed up of hosting never-ending tea parties, our Mad Hatter rebels, quits and finds himself addicted to anything that makes him forget the tumultuous world he escaped from...

SNV13769

Malice in Wonderland... What a sweet girl Alice was, unfortunately on her way out of the rabbit hole she was bitten by a hallucinogenically poisonous spider and went a little bit mad!

SNV13780

When Snow White uncovered her wicked step-mother's plan to poison her with an apple, she decided to bite the hand that feeds her... literally. Discovering cannibalism was a good way for Snowy to deal with her family issues.

Check back tomorrow for a few more snaps...

Much love,
